Hiking Mobile App - State Forest Management Centre (RMK)

This app offers a variety of features that make it a valuable tool for hiking enthusiasts. It provides detailed information about hiking destinations, trails, and events offered by RMK in Estonia. By presenting maps, photos, and rich text content, together with capable search and filtering functions, the app allows users to explore and plan their outdoor adventures with ease. The app is designed to be user-friendly and easy to navigate, with a clean and modern interface that makes it easy to find the information you need.

My Role

My responsibility was to translate business analysis outputs into a clear, usable product experience. Based on detailed use-case stories describing the functional requirements, I created a structured UX concept that defined how users would navigate the app, complete tasks, and understand system feedback. Crafted wireframes and interactive prototypes for user testing, UX consultations and collaboration with stakeholders.

Problem Space

The goal was to design a mobile hiking application that supports users in planning, navigating, and managing their outdoor activities in a reliable and intuitive way. The app is used in real environments, often while moving, multitasking, or dealing with changing weather and light conditions. This meant the experience needed to be simple, clear, and efficient, avoiding unnecessary cognitive load while still supporting a feature-rich product vision.

Design Challenges

The design challenges were to create a simple, clear, and efficient interface that supports a feature-rich product vision.

How might we ensure clarity and simplicity in a complex, multi-functional product used in outdoor contexts?

How to build an intuitive navigation system within the application to allow users to explore content that is multimodal and has various topics? /p>
